GemstoneShield

Independent Gemstone Identification

We don't certify the story.
We just identify the stone!

GemstoneShield uses instrumental testing, precise measurements and visual examination to identify a gemstone, then seals it and preserves the identification and photographic record online — permanently linked to its serial number.

Our Process

Identification you can look up at any time

Every GemstoneShield carries a unique serial number. That number links the physical package to a digital record of exactly what was observed and measured.

  1. 01

    Instrumental testing

Each stone is tested with gemological instruments, including PGI analysis and refractive index measurement.

  2. 02

    Measurement & examination

Weight in carats and dimensions in millimeters are recorded, and the stone is examined visually at 10x magnification.

  3. 03

    Encapsulation

The identified stone is sealed in a GemstoneShield package together with its serialized identification card.

  4. 04

    Permanent online record

Identification data and photographs — before and after sealing — are preserved online under the serial number.

What We Report

A clear, honest scope

GemstoneShield reports what instruments and examination can establish. We do not make claims beyond identification.

Included in every record

  • Stone type identification
  • Color, shape and cut description
  • Weight (ct) and dimensions (mm)
  • PGI identification result
  • Refractive index
  • Visual inclusions observed at 10x
  • Photographic record before and after encapsulation

Not determined by GemstoneShield

  • Grading of any kind
  • Geographic origin
  • Treatments or enhancements
  • Natural vs. laboratory-created
